Senior Thesis

Heirloom

My senior thesis, Heirloom, highlights seeds as the storyteller of our past and the carrier of our cultures' futures. The commodification of seeds we see today runs against the nature of a seed, with it eliminating biodiversity and undermining local food systems. Through initiatives like seed saving and supporting ethical seed growers, my project aids to reclaim the tradition of nurturing and preserving seeds through fostering a culture of gratitude and reciprocity towards seed stewards who are choosing to upkeep our seeds.

I chose to create a community seed library, where people are given the opportunity to learn the story of the seed, the growers, and in return can take a seed for themselves, to foster a new community that practices seed saving.
